The moths were collected by Maria Sybilla Merian who assisted by her daughter, local people of Suriname and enslaved peoples, both of African and Amerindian descent. These moths were catalogued and painted by Merian and appear in her ambitious work Metamorphosis Insectorum Surinamensium published in 1705.
