Art Incubator has selected Sydney-based ceramicist Megan McKenzie as the second recipient of its 2025 grant program, with a solo exhibition scheduled to open at CBD Gallery on 12 November 2025.
Working primarily with clay and glaze, McKenzie employs familiar forms such as spheres to examine how personal experience shapes the meanings we assign to objects. Her practice centers on the relationship between materials and perception, particularly exploring how objects can simultaneously exist in multiple states.
Through careful manipulation of light, refraction, colour, texture, and spatial relationships, McKenzie creates works that challenge viewers’ interpretative processes. Her artistic inquiry focuses on both individual and collective meaning-making, investigating how these intuitive processes reflect broader cultural patterns.
A recent graduate of the National Art School, McKenzie completed her BFA in 2025 and received the Award for Outstanding Academic Achievement. She has participated in several group exhibitions and was recognised as a finalist in the 2024 Muswellbrook Art Prize.
The Art Incubator grant program supports emerging artists by providing exhibition opportunities and professional development resources, helping to bridge the gap between art school and sustained artistic practice.
McKenzie’s upcoming solo exhibition at CBD Gallery will mark a significant milestone in her developing career as she continues to explore the intersection of materiality and perception through her ceramic practice.
