Junko Hagiwara

Biography

"When I was in primary school in Japan, summer holidays meant picture diaries. One notebook page for each day with sketches on top and fragments of thoughts underneath.

My work is a continuation of that early practice. Life is continuous moments of thoughts, feelings and spiritual insights at different places.

Some words are hidden in my work. If you can’t read them, you can ask me or just make it up to be whatever you like. Your interpretation is just as valid as mine.

The way time flows is not universal. Numerical time is an artificial construct. The way we measure it in numbers and clocks is only one version of reality. My time flows non linear, layered, unruly and tender."
